Founded in the year 1924 in the city of Metzingen --Germany and named after it's founder, Hogo Boss is a fashion house specialized in high-end mens and womenswear.
Starting his firm during the Great Depression -- a severe economic crisis before the second World War -- Hugo Boss was soon forced into bankruptcy. Salvation came in the year 1931, when after making a deal with his creditors, Hugo was able to save six sewing machines to start building his firm again. In the same year, Hugo Boss made a "deal with the devil" in order to save and produce his company. The designer joined the Nazi Party, and became a sponsoring member of the Schutzstaffel -- Nazi paramilitary society under Hitler. Hugo became the official supplier of the all black Schutzstaffel uniforms in the year 1932, managing in this way to sell 86 times more -- from 38,260 Rm in 1932 to over 3,300,000 Rm in 1941. After the second World War, the German designer was fined for his keep of nazism and he was stripped of voting rights. Hugo died in the year 1948 of a tooth abscess, but his firm lived on.
Watches
Today, the firm has at least 6,100 points of sale in over 110 countries, owning directly over 360 retail shop and over 1000 franchised shop and shops. Hugo Boss products are manufactured in a collection of locations, together with Mitzingen, Germany, and is divided in two core brands: Hugo and Boss. The firm has license agreements with a multitude of clubs that produce Hugo Branded products.
Hugo Boss Watches are produced by a Swiss luxury firm named Modavo (founded in 1881 in Switzerland).
Modavo is world known for it's iconic Museum Watch -- the first wristwatch displayed at the Museum of contemporary Art and reviewed as the only wristwatch that is truly primary and beautiful and for the Modavo Timesculpture -- a unique clock statue that was designed by Philip Johnson and placed face Lincoln center in New York City. A funny fact is that architect Johnson secured founding for his major contributions to the Lincon center only after he committed in creating the piece.
The Modavo Timesculpture is an 18 feet high bronze statue with four clock faces of distinct diameters, placed at distinct heights, and set upon a 3.5 foot base. The clock inset was created in Switzerland and communicates with a Gps ideas in order to have best accuracy - plus/minus one millisecond. The project was financed by Modavo, which continues to keep the Lincoln center Memorial in various other projects.
In the year 2005 Modavo signed an exclusive license with Hugo Boss, to produce and distribute Hugo Boss Watches. The very first collection of Hugo Boss Watches was launched in shop in 2006 during spring season. Hugo Boss Watches produced by Modavo reflect the sophisticated character and craftsmanship that made all Boss stock world known, standing out in the world as quality and style designer watches.
